Partners Community HealthCare, Inc. (PCHI) this month honored Phyllis Jen, MD, medical director of Brigham Internal Medicine Associates (BIMA), with the Samuel O. Thier Physician Leadership Award, which recognizes a physician whose qualities inspire others.
“Dr. Jen has a relentless commitment to making her part of the health care system as good as it can be,” said Samuel O. Thier, former Partners HealthCare president and CEO, for whom the award is named.
During her more than 30 years at BWH, Jen has connected with countless patients and employees. She began at the hospital in 1976 as a resident in Internal Medicine and has been a primary care physician in BIMA since completing residency. As medical director of BIMA, she oversees operations and plays a central role in the internal medicine residency program. Under Jen’s leadership, BIMA consistently receives high patient satisfaction scores and excellent quality outcomes, and it has become a model practice for all patients and an invaluable teaching service for residents. In addition, Jen participates on many hospital committees, including the LMR User Advisory Committee, Signature Initiatives Steering Committee and Diabetes Council. She has been active in initiatives to enhance and maintain care for the underserved population cared for by BWH. Jen also is a member of the Partners Board of Trustees and serves on the Partners Board Information Systems Committee.
