Thanks to the efforts of nurses, social workers and support staff of Care Coordination, many children in Kingston, Jamaica, will receive new clothes next week. In recognition of Nursing Care Coordination and Social Work months, Care Coordination held a clothing drive at BWH last week after a social worker visiting BWH from Jamaica illustrated the strong needs of people in her community. The drive was part of an ongoing exchange between social workers at BWH and in Kingston. Susan Larrabee, MSW, LICSW, next week will deliver the clothes during her second trip to Jamaica, where she shares her experience and expertise with the country’s HIV/AIDS social workers. Social workers in Jamaica have limited support and few resources to do their jobs, and regional poverty and violence often hinder their efforts to help patients.
