Every year, BWH receives countless letters from patients and their family members, thanking BWHers for their compassion and excellent care. This year, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, Bulletin highlights excerpts from four of these letters.
To whom it may concern,
The nurses on Shapiro 9 West took care of my dad during some of his worst times and were great advocates for him. There is something to be said for a nurse who comes during his break to see how my dad is doing. After my dad passed away, two of his nurses came to his wake. They told our family that my dad had touched their hearts and they had to come. I think it was the other way around-they touched our hearts and my father’s heart in the last hours it was beating.
Dear NICU and Wellness Care Unit,
I would like to make you aware of the wonderful care I recently witnessed for my godchild, her husband and their newborn son. After spending some time in the NICU, the baby was moved to the Wellness Care Unit. The nurses there were kind, caring, supportive and sensitive. They anticipated the needs of the new parents and made sure they had every comfort possible. I’ve never before encountered that kind of personal interest and support in a hospital’s nursing staff.
Dear BWH,
I have been wanting to send note to the hospital about the excellent care I received. From the time I was admitted until my discharge, I received wonderful care from every team member. The nurse in the PACU was caring and compassionate. Each member of the surgical team came to meet me, explain their role, what to expect, and answered any questions that I had. In addition, the personal care attendants, housekeeping, kitchen and unit secretaries were very professional and helpful.
To the phenomenal staff on 8D,
Words could never begin to come close to express how grateful we are for all the care that you provided to my mother and the rest of us at the end of her journey through this life. As a nurse for many years and having worked with many different medical professionals, I can tell you that the compassion and caring that was extended to our family could never be taught in any school. If all families are treated the way we were treated, you are all impacting many lives in a positive way and in ways that will have a far-reaching effect.
