As part of a continuing effort to protect patient information, BW/F has strengthened current policies and developed new ones regarding privacy and information security. All employees, temporary employees, medical and professional staff, volunteers, students and trainees are required to complete a new training module, called BWH HIPAA, in HealthStream by Jan. 15, 2012.
Initial portions of the module include a review, but the majority of the training contains important new information. The new training is in addition to the annual HealthStream training.
Protecting patients’ information is critical to BW/F’s mission. In June, an external hard drive that belonged to a BW/F physician was lost. BW/F sent letters to notify the 638 patients whose medical information may have been on the device.
The HealthStream training module has been updated with new content on how to keep patient information secure. Visit the “Policies” section of BWHPikeNotes.org to see the new and updated policies.
If you have any questions, please ask your manager or a member of the BWH Privacy Office staff at BWHHIPAA@partners.org, or call 617-582-5201.
