BWH mourns the loss of Eileen Cody, RN, who passed away Oct. 10. She was 39.
Mrs. Cody was a nurse at BWH for more than 10 years. Her colleagues remember her not only for the way she treated all of her patients with respect and compassion, but also for the fact that she was seldom seen without a smile on her face.
“She smiled all of the time, in good times and in bad,” said Float Pool Nursing Director Cathy Rumble, RN. “She conducted her life at the Brigham, and her life outside of the Brigham, with love, compassion and kindness. She was special.”
Mrs. Cody was born in Boston on Jan. 8, 1972, and graduated from Northeastern University in 1995. She lived in Foxborough with her husband, Noel, and two sons, Liam and Brendan. In her free time, she was an avid volunteer, spending time at her church and her sons’ school. She was artistic and creative, and also enjoyed gardening and cake decorating.
After she was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago, Cody, a lifetime non-smoker, became actively involved with bringing awareness to a disease that is often overlooked by those who don’t smoke. Earlier this year, she shared her story with viewers of “The Dr. Oz Show.”
In addition to her husband and sons, Mrs. Cody is survived by her mother and father, George and Grace Wilmot, and two brothers and one sister.
A funeral mass for Mrs. Cody was held Oct. 14 at St. Mary’s Church in Foxborough. A memorial for her colleagues at BWH is also planned; information is forthcoming.
