In an effort to reduce waiting times for patients and expand BWH’s breast screening services, a new policy will be in effect beginning on January 2 to accommodate the high demand for mammography services at BWH. The new policy will allow for a more efficient system in BWH’s mammography screening center on L-1 and its mammography diagnostic center located off of the 2nd floor Pike.
Starting January 2, all of the screenings on a given day will be batch read by a radiologist at the end of the day. The finalized reports will be available that evening and patients will be notified of the results by mail in a week or less. If additional views or ultrasounds are necessary, the patient will be contacted directly and asked to come back to BWH for a diagnostic mammogram (performed at the Center off of the 2nd floor Pike).
Staff who are involved in scheduling mammograms for patients are asked to contact Lisa Loftus-Smith (lloftussmith@partners.org or ext. 2-6269) for a copy of the criteria to determine if a patient needs a screening (performed at the Center L-1) or a diagnostic mammogram (performed at the Center off of the 2nd floor Pike). Questions or concerns should be directed to Phyllis Kornguth, MD, PhD (pkornguth@partners.org or ext. 2-6269) or Jack Meyer, MD (jmeyer@partners.org or ext. 2-6269).
