Carrying the Olympic Torch: Peter Libby, MD,
Embodying true Olympic Spirit: John Jarcho, MD.
A former heart transplant patient, Danalyn Adams Scharf, her cardiologist, John Jarcho, MD (pictured, left) and Peter Libby, MD (pictured, right), chief, Cardiovascular Medicine, all participated in segments of the Olympic Torch Relay in Boston. Scharf carried the torch first, making her way through Beacon Hill on Thursday evening, December 27. Less than an hour later, the torch was handed off to Jarcho and by early morning on Friday December 28, Libby was carrying it through Charlestown.
BWH’s Olympic torchbearers were nominated based on their ability to inspire others to great achievement. Scharf, Jarcho and Libby not only embody the true Olympic spirit, but also are proud representatives of BWH’s mission of service and care to the community.
The Olympic Torch was lit in November in Olympia, Greece and will travel more than 13,500 miles across the United States in 65 days. The three runners proudly representing BWH are part of an accomplished and prestigious group of more than 11,500 individuals that will help carry the torch to its final destination—Salt Lake’s Olympic Stadium on February 8.
