Leading the way in Women’s Health, BWH has launched a new project that helps define the best of care for women. Through the collaborative effort of BWH physicians, nurses, physical therapists and dieticians, BWH is developing a set of Women’s Health Guidelines that serve to inform primary care clinicians and patients about current clinical standards in women’s health care. There are now ten guidelines in varying stages of development, representing what BWH experts recommend as the standard of care for women. The following five guidelines are completed and available on the web or in hard copy: Osteoporosis, Cervical Cancer, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Breast Disease and Depression. Guidelines about Cardiovascular Disease, Musculoskeletal, Obesity and Common GYN problems are currently in development.
“We have focused on areas where there are clinical controversies and practice variabilities,” said Sohelya Gharib, MD. “Our goal is to help create a blue-print of care for female patients by translating the latest research findings and gathering a consensus opinion among our leading experts from various medical specialties.”
The Women’s Health Guidelines are available on the intranet version of the Partners Handbook (http://is.partners.org/handbook), by clicking on “Guidelines.” They are also posted on the hospital’s home page (www.brighamandwomens.org) and can be accessed by clicking on Medical Professionals/Physicians/Resources/Treatment Guidelines. Hard copies of the guidelines are available by calling ext. 2-9550.
