Furthering BWH’s commitment to diversity, the hospital community gathered on February 21 to honor the current Minority Career Development Awardees and present the 2002 Diversity Leadership Award. The event also included updates from a variety of staff members on their departmental and individual efforts to make BWH a more diverse, community friendly and accessible medical center. Nawal Nour, MD, keynote speaker, shared an in-depth look into her work at BWH’s African Women’s Health Practice, a center she founded and the first of its kind in the United States. Nour, recently featured in the February issue of Oprah Magazine for her groundbreaking work.
Highlights of the event included a surprise announcement of a new award. To recognize outgoing BWH President Jeff Otten’s vision, the annual Diversity Leadership Award, which was presented to Otten, will now be named in his honor. The Diversity Celebration also included a presentation of the Minority Career Development and Connors Awardees, which honored eight physicians.
