Simon Gelman, MD, PhD, chairman, Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, was honored by friends, colleagues and family for his years of service and dedication to building a tradition of excellence at BWH at a retirement celebration on Friday, June 14. Highlights of the event included the announcement by Eugene Braunwald, MD, chief academic officer, Partners, of the Gelman Professorship in Anesthesia and the portrait unveiling of painter Marc Klionsky’s artistic tribute to Gelman’s leadership and vision. Throughout the event, friends, coworkers and family members shared time at the podium honoring Gelman and describing the proud legacy he will leave at BWH.
Charles N. Serhan, PhD, senior biochemist and director of the Center for Experimental, Therapeutic and Reperfusion Injury, has been appointed the Simon Gelman Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School. Simon Gelman, MD, PhD, stepped down from his position as chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine in June.
