On August 1, Longwood Medical Eye Center will be available for Ophthalmology services in the Shapiro Clinical Center on Brookline Avenue. This comes at a time when Massachusetts Eye and Ear Associates (MEEA) will be closing its practice at 221 Longwood Avenue.
After August 1, existing patients in the Longwood Medical area, including BWH staff and employees, can be seen at this new site or at MEEA sites outside of Longwood. The ophthalmologists at Longwood Medical Eye Center also will provide full coverage at BWH.
“We have established a relationship with these Harvard-affiliated ophthalmologists who will provide around the clock, on-call services to our Emergency Department and be available 24-hours-a-day for inpatient consults,” said Michael Zinner, MD, chairman, BWH Department of Surgery, who oversees Ophthalmology services at BWH. “Their location in the Longwood vicinity also will allow the group to be a referral site for many BWH ambulatory patients.”
Longwood Medical Eye Center is located on the 5th floor of Beth Israel Deaconess’ Shapiro Clinical Center at the corner of Longwood and Brookline Avenues. The appointment phone number for Ophthalmology will remain the same (617-732-6812) and primary care physicians will have full access to their services for appropriate patients.
