BWH and MGH researchers have begun moving into a new Partners research facility located at 65 Landsdowne Street in Cambridge, marking the first time both institutions’ research programs will be housed under one roof.
“This venture exemplifies the true collaborative spirit with which Partners was first established,” said Samuel Thier, MD, president and CEO, Partners HealthCare.
The new venue will be home to both institutions’ Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT); the Partners AIDS laboratory; BWH’s radiology and cardiovascular medicine research; BWH’s Center for Neurologic Diseases; BWH’s National Resource for Imaging Mass Spectrometry; and MGH’s infectious diseases-bacterial pathogenesis laboratory, diabetes research and obstetrical/ gynecology research.
“Our joint clinical and teaching programs are indications of the how well BWH and MGH can work together, so bringing some of our research programs together in one location should be quite successful,” said Eugene Braunwald, MD, Partners vice president of academic programs.
BWH and MGH laboratory space accounts for 55 percent of the 103,000 square-foot building, while research office space fills 45 percent of it.
BWH and MGH researchers have begun moving their operations into the new building, which is nestled into the research–office complex known as University Park at MIT. 65 Landsdowne Street is one of 21 established buildings at University Park. The complex is not fully completed, but is growing steadily, as its location near MIT and Harvard makes it particularly attractive to biotech companies and research organizations.
