As the books close for fiscal year 2001 (FY 01), BWH’s Development Department, the fundraising arm of the organization, has surpassed its $30 million goal, to raise $31.2 million.
“We are extremely proud of our whole Development team, whose energy and hard work has fostered appropriate relationships, executed successful events and built stewardship and acknowledgement systems that effectively support this record amount of giving,” said Joan Hadly, chief Development officer, who offers equal credit to physicians, trustees and senior leadership who have been part of this year’s fundraising success.
“The donors to BWH are generous individuals, families and companies who realize the power and future of philanthropic giving as it assists BWH to carry out its mission in patient care, teaching and research. We continue to be extremely appreciative of their generosity,” said Hadly.
This year’s impressive totals are nearly $7 million more than last year’s totals. Development’s fundraising efforts in FY00 and FY99 totaled $24.5 million each year. Just five years ago, BWH was raising less than $10 million annually.
Folded into their fundraising efforts, is the hospital’s Capital Campaign, which is now in its leadership phase and will be announced to the public next spring. Campaign progress indicates that BWH is at nearly 42 percent of its campaign goal, with an intention to raise $200 million before its conclusion in 2005.
The success of BWH’s fundraising is further indicated in its return on investment (ROI), which is what it costs to raise $1. BWH touts an impressive $0.13/dollar ROI, substantially less than the national average of $0.20-.25/dollar ROI.
The Development Department plans to carry this momentum in the years to come with goals exceeding 30 million each year.
