Leading the way in Women’s Health, BWH has launched a new project that helps define the best care for women. Soheyla Gharib MD, editor-in-chief, and Mary D. Chapin, RN, director of Women’s Health Guidelines, are leading a collaborative effort of BWH physicians, nurses, physical therapists and dieticians, to develop a set of Women’s Health Guidelines. These guidelines are designed to inform primary care clinicians and patients about current clinical standards in women’s health care.
With the establishment of the Women’s Health Guidelines team, which also includes Joanne Coletta-Levine of Marketing and Planning and Muffie Martin, RN, MSN of Partners Handbook, the group now has ten guidelines in varying stages of development, representing what BWH experts recommend as the standard of care for women. The following five guidelines are completed and available on the web or in hard copy: Osteoporosis, Cervical Cancer, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Breast Disease and Depression. Guidelines about Cardiovascular Disease, Musculoskeletal, Obesity and Common GYN problems are currently in development.
“We have focused on areas where there are clinical controversies and practice variability,” said Gharib. “Our goal is to help create clear-cut recommendations of care for female patients by translating the latest research findings and gathering a consensus opinion among our leading experts from various medical specialties.”
