Last weekend we marked the transition to a new Millennium across the globe. We watched in admiration as the fears and doubts of Y2K were drowned out by voices of optimism and hope. Here at Brigham and Women’s Hospital we wanted to take a moment to offer our gratitude to all staff and employees who have made this one of the best places in the nation to come for quality healthcare. We offer our particular thanks to those who worked so hard to prepare BWH for Y2K and to those who spent all or part of the New Year’s weekend making sure that patient care would go uninterrupted. Your dedication and loyalty to our patients makes this a special place. As we look to this new century we can feel strengthened by the diligence and perseverance of generations of caregivers before us. Nurses, physicians, researchers, and advocates have created a unique and exciting culture of compassion and values. Emboldened by that tradition of caring, we know that there are no limits on what we can achieve over the course of the 21st century. We will undoubtedly face difficult challenges in the years ahead. Healthcare will continue to be defined by dramatic change. Yet, as it does, our standing in this industry will continue to be solidified if we remain true to our mission and values. We will continue to pursue our goals of growth and improvement built upon a foundation of quality work life and fortified by our commitment to diversity and respect for all individuals. Together, anything is possible. As we anticipate the wonderful miracles in the years ahead, we know that there will be no better place to put those miracles to work for the benefit of patients than Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
