“Wear Red for Women Day”
As part of American Heart Month, BWH’s Center for Cardiovascular Disease in Women has been recognized for its cardiac care delivery and promotion of public health messages about women’s heart health. The Center was named one of the 44 best cardiac centers for women in the February issue of Good Housekeeping magazine. Paula A. Johnson, MD, MPH, chief of the Division of Women’s Health; executive director of the Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology; and medical director of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease in Women, was featured as a top cardiologist in the magazine.
In recognition of the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease, Johnson was on hand at the State House last Wednesday to accept a proclamation from Lt. Governor Kerry Healey, naming February 6, 2004, as “Wear Red for Women Day” in Massachusetts. Johnson later spoke to the crowd about women and heart disease and the “Go Red for Women” campaign sponsored by the American Heart Association.
The BWH Center for Cardiovascular Disease in Women will join Partners HealthCare in sponsoring and participating in the National Women’s Heart Day Health Fair at the Hynes Convention Center. The event will take place on Women’s Heart Day, Friday, February 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will offer complimentary health screenings, educational seminars and fitness and cooking demonstrations. It is free and open to the public. Look for coverage of the event in the February 27 issue of BWH Bulletin.
