BWH has just announced a new center with Children’s Hospital, building upon the tradition of transplant research recognized in this year’s 50th anniversary celebration. The collaboration is expected to expand BWH’s transplant research into new areas, enabling researchers to contribute significant new therapies to the field.
Mohamed H. Sayegh, MD, the Center’s new director said, “Transplant outcomes have improved greatly in recent years, but there are still many challenges, including organ availability, chronic rejection and the side effects of immunosuppressive drugs. Through our work in immune tolerance, islet transplantation and chronic rejection, we seek to make transplantation more widely available and successful.”
According to Sayegh, the joint effort with Children’s fortifies BWH’s efforts into multi-center trials and adds the potential for clinical trials involving children.
