A recent $3 million gift by BWH Trustee Howard Kessler and his wife and women’s health advocate, Michele, is touching the lives of many BWH patients, families, and medical staff.
Their donation helped build the technologically-advanced 10-bed Kessler Cancer Suite in the inpatient tower, where caregivers from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and BWH collaborate.
They also funded construction of the Kessler Family Waiting Room, a comfortable and quiet gathering place for those visiting palliative care patients.
The Michele Kessler Women’s Health Leadership Fund will assist Paula Johnson, MD, MPH, executive director of the Connors Center for Women’s Health, as she promotes policy and advocacy. “It’s incredibly difficult to garner support for such work,” Michele Kessler said, “but we recognize that Paula’s efforts will impact the health of all women.”
Atul Gawande, MD, has been named the inaugural Howard and Michele Kessler Scholar. It’s the first fund at BWH designed to support surgeons early in their careers.
The Kesslers’ generous gift builds on an impressive history of support to BWH—$4.5 million contributed over the last seven years.
