Responding to surgical demand, the OR is sporting six new C-ARMS – portable fluoroscopic units used to obtain patient images during surgery.
The portable C-shaped devices have become essential equipment in the operating room, guiding surgical staff with image enhancement. These sophisticated tools feature software packages for general surgery or for specialties such as neuro-logy and vascular.
According to Mike Delvecchio, technical director, Radiology, “C-ARMs are an essential piece of equipment in the operating room. In reviewing trends and statistics, we recognized that we needed to work with the surgical chiefs to learn what they would find most useful and to procure it.” “The new units are state-of-the-art C-ARMS,” said Charles David Healy, Diagnostic Radiology manager. “They allow us to provide images that can be archived in our Radiology PACS (Picture Archive & Communication System).”
"Our minimally-invasive surgical procedures require modern C-ARM technology and at any time, we may be using multiple C-ARMS in our operating rooms. This is a great help to our care of patients," said Thomas Thornhill, MD, chairman, Orthopedic Surgery.
