The Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO), comprised primarily of Boston-area health care professionals and medical students, will open its first concert of the season honoring BWH physician, Daniel D. Federman, MD.
For Federman, music and medicine have been interwoven throughout his life. “Fifty years ago I was asked by one of my terrific teachers on bedside rounds what I would have done if I had not been accepted into medicine. ‘Be a conductor’ I replied without hesitation, most likely in the opera,” he said. The LSO has a long history of hosting concerts to benefit the community. The season opener will benefit the Daniel D. Federman Professorship in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School (HMS) to support professors committed to the teaching of medicine. “The orchestra members who give this concert and the individuals who attend can genuinely feel that they have contributed to the quality of medical education at HMS, and therefore to the care of patients indefinitely.”
