The interdisciplinary BWH Code Team practiced responding quickly and effectively to a stressful situation during training led by STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation Medical Director Chuck Pozner, MD, and Program Manager Stephen Nelson, CCEMT-P. The team applied communication, organization and resuscitation principles during two simulated cases using the mannequin-based simulator at STRATUS. Code teams-which respond to medical emergencies including cardiac arrest in patients, visitors and staff throughout the hospital-have adapted their CPR practice to adhere to recently revised American Heart Association guidelines. The new guidelines emphasize the importance of performing ideal CPR, including a compression to ventilation ratio of 30 to 2.
