Robert Chicarello last month was named director of BWH Security and Parking, a post he held on an interim basis since December. Chicarello is a certified protection professional, which is the leading credential in security-his field for more than 32 years.
"The trick in health care security is to keep us all feeling safe and secure in this huge facility without creating an unwelcoming atmosphere. Chico understands this well and is constantly tweaking the program in order to make this happen," said Arthur Mombourquette, vice president of Support Services. "His transition to director has been seamless because of his strong leadership ability."
Chicarello joined BWH in 1986 as assistant director of Security before that department merged with Parking. He also contributed to the launch of the valet program in 1994, which has since grown to become the largest valet parking operation on the East Coast, moving an average of 18,000 patient and visitor cars per month. Chicarello and his team oversee more than 500,000 patient and employee self- and valet-parked cars and manage approximately 5,000 parking spaces.
Moving forward, Chicarello will continue to refine and improve an already smooth-running parking operation while playing a vital leadership role in ensuring the safety and security of BWH staff, patients and visitors throughout the distributed campus.
