Rain didn’t damper spirits at 15 Francis St. last Thursday as hundreds of BWHers, friends, family and community members celebrated the 16th annual Street Beat.
“We had a great turnout this year despite the weather,” Jacqueline Ashby, special events coordinator, said. “Street Beat offered something for everyone’s enjoyment, whether it was international cuisine, entertainment or a selection of arts and crafts.”
Traditional Spanish dishes from Merengue, Dippin’ Dots ice cream and Passage to India were some of the culinary highlights, satiating even the most adventurous eaters. Many attendees danced to the musical stylings of the Branches Steel Band, Kubota and the Wanetta Jackson Group. For those savvy shoppers looking for a one-of-a-kind purchase, local arts and crafts vendors representing diverse cultures did just the trick. And still other BWHers feeling lucky entered one of the many Street Beat raffles, with hopes of winning prizes including Six Flags and Aquarium tickets, Celtics gear and spa services at 98 North Salon and Day Spa.
This year’s theme, “Many Branches, Strong Roots,” honored BWH’s diverse and unique staff and was illustrated on vivid green
T-shirts.
