Mary L. White, RN, MBA, risk manager, last month became the first person at BWH to earn certification as a Professional in Health Care Risk Management from the American Hospital Association.
“I am thrilled for Mary’s achievement,” Janet Barnes, RN, JD, executive director of Compliance, said. “This is indicative of her growing experience, knowledge and commitment to her profession and BWH.”
The Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management was established in 2000 to evaluate and improve practices for managing risk in the health care setting. It addresses federal standards, compliance and ethical issues in the context of risk management.
As one of 1,000 risk managers in the U.S. who have received this certification, White is a leader in Risk Management both nationally and at BWH. Through consultations with various hospital departments and clinicians and outside regulatory agencies, she addresses quality input at BWH and helps ensure safety for patients and staff.
“We are constantly looking at opportunities to ensure BWH is the safest possible environment,” White said. “I learned a lot from this national exam and am looking forward to applying what I learned to our compliance standards here.”
