Bill Churchill, MS, RPh, last month was promoted from director to executive director of Pharmacy Services.
“Bill has helped to make BWH a world-class hospital in providing the highest quality patient care,” Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, vice president for Clinical Excellence, said. “In addition to improving pharmacy administration and medication safety at BWH, Bill has helped to build an operational, academic and clinical pharmacy program that has become a national and international benchmark.”
Churchill, who has worked at BWH for 32 years, has expanded the scope of pharmacy practice to several new areas at the hospital, including the Operating Room, ambulatory practice areas and off-site infusion centers. He co-chairs the eMAR-pharmacy business owners team and the Drug Safety Committee and serves as vice chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Outside of BWH, Churchill is co-chair of a Partners High Performance Medicine Patient Safety Sub-team and vice chair of the University Hospitals Consortium Pharmacy Financial Performance Improvement Committee.
New priorities for Churchill in the coming months will include increased collaboration with Faulkner Hospital pharmacy services and the development of the Partners Center for Drug Policy, a new initiative that will focus on medication research, utilization review and drug policy development for the Partners system. He also will represent BWH externally on a national JCAHO Medication Safety Expert Panel, the Novation IV Therapy Task Force and as a leader of the practice section on bar coding for the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists.
