Malcolm Taylor, administrator for the Division of Preventive Medicine and a longtime BWH research administrator known for his kindness and generosity, died Dec. 18, 2006, following an illness of several months. He was 59.
“In addition to his extraordinary talent and skills in research administration and grant management, Malcolm was a jewel of a person. His gentle manner, kindness, generosity of spirit and dedication were inspirational, and he always went above and beyond what was expected,” JoAnn E. Manson, MD, DrPH, chief of the Division of Preventive Medicine, said. “In every possible way, he will be sorely missed.”
Preventive Medicine plans to honor Mr. Taylor’s memory with an annual award in his name for members who demonstrate unusual acts of kindness and generosity, Manson added.
Mr. Taylor, who lived in Brighton, was born and raised in Maine. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and master of arts degree in French literature at the University of Maine. He has been a faithful and dedicated employee of BWH and its predecessor hospitals since the mid 1970s, initially starting in Accounts Payable. He then worked for the research arm of the hospital in grants and contracts.
After working for some time at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, he returned to BWH in research management in 2002. “Malcolm had a positive sense of humor and was a calming influence on our department,” said Keith Marcotte, who retired as BWH’s vice president of research administration.
Mr. Taylor was son of the late Chancy and Silva (Nickerson) Taylor. He is survived by a sister, Janis E. Kidney of Florida, six nieces and nephews and five grandnieces and grandnephews. He will be interred in East Mercer Cemetery in Maine.
