BWH Wellness Works—the hospital's new initiative to promote employee health and wellness—got off to a hearty start at last week's health fair. More than 300 BWHers attended the fair and received body composition checks, screenings for glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure, information on fitness programs, stress reduction, skin care, hand hygiene and more.
Employees gave something in return: their valuable suggestions for how to build the BWH Wellness Works program. "We were very pleased with the turnout for the health fair," said Maryellen Cotter, director of Occupational Health and program manager for Wellness Works. "We're excited to read everyone's suggestions and incorporate them into Wellness Works to make it a program that truly works for employees."
Stay tuned to BWH Bulletin for more information on BWH Wellness Works.
BWH Nutrition can help. As part of the hospital's new Wellness Works initiative, Nutrition offers employees a 12-week group weight control program that focuses on strategies for long-term success. By identifying food habits, lifestyles and physical activity patterns, the Weight Away at Work program empowers employees with the knowledge and skills to control and change behaviors. Taught by BWH dietitians, Weight Away at Work runs Wednesdays, 12:30 – 1:15 p.m., from March 7 to May 23, in the Cardiac Surgery Conference Room. Employees can sign up for this program at the discounted rate of $150. To register, call ext. 2-6054.
