The BWH Emergency Response Committee and Biomedical Engineering will modify the settings on all automatic external defibrillators (wall mounted AEDs and the AED function on all Zoll M Series) throughout the hospital beginning June 14. The new settings instruct clinicians to administer a single shock (automatically set to 200 joules) followed by immediate CPR. The AED will check a patient’s rhythm after five cycles of CPR (two minutes). If necessary, subsequent shocks will continue at 200 joules.
