BWHers are uniting for the 11th annual Boston Arthritis Walk Sept. 23. Jeffrey Katz, MD, MSc, director, Orthopedic and Arthritis Center for Outcomes Research, and Victoria Gall, PT, MEd, of the Section of Clinical Sciences, Rheumatology, Immunology & Allergy, are co-captains of BWH’s Joint Walkers team.
The team aims to double its membership and quadruple funds raised last year. “Our goal is to get at least 20 walkers and raise $8,000,” Gall said.
The Arthritis Foundation of Massachusetts sponsors the walk and distributes funds raised to arthritis research programs. In 2006, BWH researchers received more than $1 million from the foundation, the most funding of any program in the state. BWH’s 30 rheumatologists see about 33,000 patient visits each year.
There are 1.5 million people in Massachusetts who have some form of arthritis, 3,000 of whom are children. The walk begins at the Prudential Center Plaza Sunday, Sept. 23, at 10:30 a.m. Visit http://bostonarthritiswalk.kintera.org to register for the BWH Joint Walkers or to make a donation.
