Tower Lobby will be getting a different look this fall, as renovations for the Nesson Pike extension to the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center are set to begin this month.
The project calls for the installation of up and down escalators just across from the Amory elevators to take patients, visitors and staff from the Lobby level to a newly created mezzanine level on the second floor just past the Volunteer Services office. From this extension of the Pike, people can cross into the Shapiro Center or head towards the Cafeteria and the main Pike.
“We are excited about extending the Pike to the Shapiro Center with a bright and welcoming mezzanine level for our patients and their families and BWH staff,” said Arthur Mombourquette, vice president of Support Services.
The offices for PERKS and Volunteer Services and a portion of Harvard Vanguard will be relocated to accommodate the Pike Extension. Real Estate and Facilities staff are working closely with those offices to find suitable, permanent space.
In addition, the free-standing hospital directory outside the gift shop will be dismantled and removed, and the waiting area outside the entrance to the Emergency Department will be revamped and upgraded with new furniture.
