Operating Room Assistant Eloy Ortega last month won the first Outstanding Recognition Award in the OR.
“Eloy is an asset to the department. He consistently goes above and beyond, and he is a team player in every aspect of the word team. His focus is always on the patient,” said Toni Kimble, OR assistant supervisor, who created the new annual award with Margaret Doyle, MSN, RN, director of Perioperative Nursing. “With this award, we want to recognize OR assistants like Eloy, who are role models and team players.”
Ortega was nominated by nurses and physicians, including Beverly K. Philip, MD, director of the Ambulatory Anesthesia Section and the Day Surgery Unit. She wrote: “Eloy looks at the work to be done not from the perspective of what an OR assistant does, but instead from the perspective of what the unit needs. The amount of work he does and the rapidity, efficiency, excellence and pleasantness that he does it with are examples to everyone.”
