As a social worker for the Palliative Care Service, Amanda Moment, MSW, LICSW, recognizes who her patients are beneath their pains and illnesses. She always strives to bring them comfort during their care.
"Amanda has the exceptional intuitive capacity to recognize patients' unspoken fears, worries and questions," said Terry Sirois, MSW, LICSW, Social Work manager. "She instinctively knows how patients perceive and experience their diseases."
For her commitment to excellence in social work practice, Moment was awarded this year's Martha Byron Burke Excellence in Social Work Award.
During a Dec. 4 award ceremony, department leadership recognized Moment as well as the many social workers' outstanding contributions to patient care.
"As a social worker in the Palliative Care Service, Amanda is a role model," wrote Moment's colleagues in her nomination. "She has helped to support and establish the importance of the interdisciplinary team on a daily basis."
The department also honored all of the social workers who were nominated for the award: Audrey Cecil, MSW, LICSW; Kathy Lynch, MSW, LICSW; Arden O'Donnell, MPH, MSW, LICSW; Stacey Salomon, MSW, LICSW; Claire Welch, MSW, LICSW; and Ling Zhang, MSW, LICSW.
The annual Excellence in Social Work Award is named after Burke, director of Social Work and Clinical Services, and recognizes a social worker who exemplifies the values and aspirations of excellence in patient- and family-centered care and leadership.
