BWH patient Jarrod Clowery, who was injured in the Boston Marathon bombing, shared his experience with local media at an April 30 press conference at BWH.
Clowery, 35, of Stoneham, sustained severe burns and shrapnel injuries to his legs, hands and other areas at the site of the second explosion. At the press conference, Clowery’s trauma surgeon, Robert Riviello, MD, said Clowery is recovering well and on his way to being fully physically healed.
Clowery thanked his care team, family and friends, some of whom were also injured in the bombing, for their support and “for keeping [him] going.” Using a football reference, he said the BWH Emergency Department’s coordinated, seamless response to the bombing was “better than any drive Tom Brady ever put together” on the field.
Added Clowery: “The doctors, nurses and staff here are the true heroes. I will be spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to thank everyone.”
