Women in Medicine, Science Month
The Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (CFDD) will host a number of events this month to celebrate women in medicine and science, culminating with the Women in Medicine and Science Symposium, Sept. 30, 2:30-5:30 p.m., in Bornstein Amphitheater. The event will highlight the collaborations and achievements of female faculty and trainees across different disciplines. To register, visit the PikeNotes calendar.
Emergency Preparedness tip
September is National Preparedness Month. BWH Bulletin will include tips and advice to prepare you and your families in the event of an emergency. This week's tip: Consider packing an emergency overnight bag in your car including (but not limited to): a change of clothes, toothbrush, feminine products, razor, hair brush, extra phone charger, water and non-perishable snacks. Quality Rounds, Sept. 12
BWHC Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mairead Hickey, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAHA, presents "Our Culture of Safety" at the next Quality Rounds, Sept. 12, at noon, in Bornstein Amphitheater. Hickey will discuss how BWH's culture of safety compares to other hospitals' and the results from the recent culture of patient safety survey. Attendees will also learn why a culture of safety is so important to BWH.
International Translators Day, Sept. 27
Interpreter Services will host a celebration on Sept. 27, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in Carrie Hall. Staff interpreters will reflect on their critical role in patient care, patient safety, bioethics and other aspects of medical interpreting. A reception with cultural foods will follow. All are welcome to attend.
New Crohn's and Colitis Center
The Brigham and Women's Crohn's and Colitis Center, located at 850 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill, adjacent to the BWH outpatient endoscopy center, is now open. The center provides coordinated, interdisciplinary care for patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Onsite services include nutrition counseling, mental health, stress management, health coaching, infusions and endoscopy.
