More than 50 clinicians and scientists gathered last month to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Society for Internationally Trained Women Faculty and Fellows at BWH. The celebration was hosted by the Office for Women’s Careers (OWC), part of the Center for Faculty Development & Diversity.
At the Oct. 22 event, society co-founders Raina Fichorova, MD, PhD, Florina Haimovici, MD, and Elena Aikawa, MD, PhD, shared the stories, accomplishments and progress of the society’s internationally trained faculty and fellows. Kathryn Rexrode, MD, OWC faculty director, also presented recognition awards to the three co-founders.
The society was formed in 2003 with the goal of creating a new hub where internationally trained female faculty could meet and share experiences in a nonjudgmental, friendly atmosphere conducive to learning, career advancement and satisfaction. Over the years, the society has peer-mentored its vibrant community, eager to change, grow, collaborate and build, with the support of many present and former BWHers along the way. The society’s leaders will continue to work together to support their internationally trained peers in adjusting to work and life in the U.S. and achieving their career goals.
