Workers’ compensation issues can be complex and challenging and require the careful attention of dedicated people. Helping to sort through employee questions and concerns is one of the roles of Occupational Health Services. Some people call for information about their benefits. Many call because they are concerned about how they are going to pay their bills. One of the people who fields these calls and helps employees during this difficult time is Stacey Stratton, this month’s Service Hero. Stratton has a variety of esponsibilities within Occupational Health. In addition to answering employees’ questions, she manages the hospital’s OSHA log, she files First Report of Injury claims with the State and she coordinates the payment of Worker’s Compensation to injured employees, to name just a few of her responsibilities. And she always does so with a friendly, patient voice and a smile. Stacey answers questions, solves problems, untangles bureaucratic jams, fixes what’s broken and finds what’s lost, says Marlene Freeley, director, Occupational Health. She is unique in her ability to blend compassion with intelligent problem-solving in order to meet the expectations of the customer. She is reliable and always delivers on her promises; she is also responsive and sincerely cares about every encounter. She does all of this with ease, friendliness, confidence and competence. Stacey is truly a star! Stacey excels at customer service, adds Christine Lestha, nurse practitioner, Occupational Health. She frequently works with employees who are in pain and losing time from work. Any delay in pay can cause financial hardship and increases people’s stress levels. Stacey is always calm and approachable as well as considerate and respectful. To the employees and managers, Stacey is responsive and responsible; and to her colleagues, she is a true team player. What is particularly impressive about Stratton’s stellar performance in Occupational Health is the fact that this is her first job since graduating from college two years ago. My boss took me on with absolutely no experience, she says, and she is still grateful for that chance. I love my job, she smiles, and I love the people I work with.
