The Brigham and Women’s Physician Organization (BWPO) was commended at the Partners Community HealthCare (PCHI) annual meeting for their collaborative vision and commitment to excellence.
The BWPO was the recipient of the Nesson Award. The award was presented in honor of the BWPO’s innovative Pharmacy Expense Reduction Program. Andrew Sussman, MD, (pictured with award below) chief medical officer of the BWPO, accepted the award on behalf of the BWPO team that designed and implemented the program. “The Pharmacy Expense Reduction Program set out to examine opportunities for physicians and patients to achieve cost savings on prescriptions,” said Sussman. “Our goal was to make the transition to new, less costly prescriptions efficient and easy for physicians and patients to manage,” he added.
The Pharmacy Expense Reduction Program team included: Bonnie Chabra, senior manager of Contract Analysis and Data Support; Karen Sax McLoughlin, director of Special Projects and Program Development; Louise Schneider, MD, Jon Coblyn, MD and Mikerlange Jean-Louis, all of the BWPO; and Jacquelyn Rogers, senior consultant pharmacist, Partners Community Healthcare.
Since its inception a year ago, the program has resulted in savings of more than $100,000. The team hopes that as the role of technology in medical management advances and savings continue to increase, many more organizations will adopt the model that BWH has created.
