Among those physicians honored at the September 24 10th Annual Physician Service Recognition Awards for their 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service to BWH, was Bernard Lown, MD, who was specially recognized for 50 years of exceptional service to the hospital.
Lown, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the International Physicians against Nuclear War, an organization he co-founded in 1985, received a framed historic photograph of the 1913 faculty of the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital.
Anthony Whittemore, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Mercedes Concepcion, MD, President of the Medical Staff Organization, both noted the family friendly nature of the event. Children were invited to a special event in the Carrie Hall Conference Room during the award ceremony where they were entertained by a story teller and day care services were provided by Parents in a Pinch.
Jeffrey Otten, BWH President, began the event by attributing the hospital’s consistent presence on the U.S. News and World Report’s Annual Honor Roll as an assessment of the quality people focused on quality patient care at BWH.
In a touching moment, the crowd honored Marc Pfeffer, MD, and recognized the contributions of his wife Janice Pfeffer, MD, who passed away earlier this year. Her mother and the couple’s children were on hand to accept the well wishes of the staff.
