The Dennis Thomson Compassionate Care Scholars program was set up in honor of Dennis Thomson, BWH Vice President for Public Affairs who passed away in 1998, to recognize clinicians who embody Dennis’ commitment to humanistic and compassionate care. Compassionate Care Scholars will serve as role models and help coordinate training initiatives for clinical staff as BWH continues to strive to deliver quality patient-centered care. Several factors were considered in selecting the scholars, among them the clinician’s ability to listen and communicate effectively, respond to patients’ wishes, and recognize the importance of cultural issues.
