Letter from the BWPO Chairman
Dear Colleagues,
The Physician Recognition Dinner affords us an opportunity to truly reflect on the remarkable work of our colleagues and come together to celebrate our contributions to science, patient care and teaching.
Although I unfortunately could not attend this year’s Physician Recognition Dinner—I was at a meeting of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists—I would still like to take a moment to remark on the breadth and depth of talent that is always present at BWH.
This year, we honored more than 200 physicians for years of service, with Dr. Thomas O’Brien and Dr. Joseph Corson topping the list at 55 years at BWH each. The presence of such talent and dedication to the institution enriches the experience for all of us in providing care, teaching our future health care leaders and providers and making new discoveries that will shape care in the future.
The BWPO was also proud to present recognition awards to five colleagues who have made outstanding contributions in clinical care, community outreach, innovation, collaboration and leadership. The Physician Recognition Award Selection Committee received many incredible nominations, and their decision was not an easy one.
Congratulations to the recipients Drs. Zeina Chemali and Chip Bolman for clinical community service; Dr. Nina Longtine for clinical innovation; Dr. Mehra Golshan for clinical collaboration; and Dr. Michael VanRooyen for leadership. Their exemplary commitment to improving care for our patients, to our communities and to BWH is truly inspiring.
A big thank you to our staff in the Physicians Organization, especially in Human Resources, for their great work in planning every last detail of this wonderful recognition event, including the availability of child care at the hotel.
Lastly, as a reminder, the dinner will be held every 18 months going forward; please mark your calendar for the next one on Nov. 5, 2011, and start thinking about potential colleagues to nominate in each category for our next awards cycle.
Sincerely,
Robert Barbieri, MD
