New Vascular Center
Since opening at Newton Corner in January, BWH's Comprehensive Vein Care Center has received rave reviews and established a rapidly growing list of satisfied patients. The center is where the BWH Interventional Radiology team provides diagnostics, laser ablation and follow-up treatment for symptomatic varicose veins.
Richard A. Baum, MD, medical director of Angiography/Interventional Radiology in the Department of Radiology, said the center has met with rapid success because of easy access to the site from the Massachusetts Turnpike, available parking and, most importantly, the efficiency and minimal recovery time of the one-hour procedure. Also, the relatively new procedure arrived with a massive pool of candidates waiting for an alternative to surgery, Baum said.
“Prior to laser ablation for varicose veins, patients would have to undergo day surgery with three days for recovery. With the laser ablation, a patient can return to work that afternoon,” Baum said.
