National Residency Match Day
BWH's tradition of matching with some of the finest medical students in the world continued once again this April. Match Week in 2001—in which medical school students apply for residency training at hospitals--saw 23,981 individuals participate. The country-wide match process assigns students to teaching hospitals using a computer program that compares hospitals' preferences with those of graduating medical students. Out of the approximately 2,000 applicants, 70 were selected to be BWH Internal Medicine interns, 37 of whom are women and thirteen of whom are underrepresented minorities. Fourteen have already earned a PhD. They hail from across the US, Canada and England.
