Friends, colleagues and family members of Nancy King McDermott, MSN, RN gathered on November 6 to honor McDermott’s contributions to BWH’s Department of Nursing. In McDermott’s memory a new nursing award was presented to recognize future nursing leaders who demonstrate great potential in nursing leadership and development. The inaugural recipient of the Nancy King McDermott Award was Mary Catherine West, RN, BSN (pictured with McDermott’s husband, Paul). West, assistant nurse manager, Cardiac Surgery is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Nursing Science and Business Administration.
West is described by her colleagues as “eager to learn in a fast-paced environment and a team player.” Now in nursing management herself, West first worked under McDermott’s guidance when arriving at BWH. “I hope to emulate Nancy and nurture others as she helped guide me when I was looking to grow in this profession,” said West.
