Dawn MacDonald, RN, BSN, in September was appointed a NIC on Tower 7AB. She has worked on 7AB since October 2003. She graduated from Salem State College in 1997 with her BSN.
Carolyn Westgate, RN, and Heather DeFabrizio, RN, in September were appointed NICs on Tower 11BD. Westgate is a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing and joined the 11BD staff in 2000. DeFabrizio graduated from the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing and joined 11BD in 2004. Both are pursuing their bachelor’s degrees.

Shannon Cahill, BSN, RN, of Tower 4B, earned her medical/surgical certification in July.
Kate Nolan, RN, of CWN 7, graduated in May with her masters in nursing and as a nurse practitioner from Simmons College.
Awards and Achievements
The Emergency Department’s Nicki Gilboy, MS, RN, CEN, and Northwestern University’s Paula Tanabe, PhD, MPH, RN, were asked to be column editors for the “Research to Practice” column of a new journal, Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal, published by Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins. The journal is aimed at experienced emergency department nurses and emergency advanced practice nurses. Their first column, “Transporting Low-Risk Chest Pain Patients: Do you need an RN and a monitor/defibrillator?” appeared in the journal’s inaugural issue in September.
In addition, Gilboy and Tanabe presented “Evidence-based Practice: What’s New and Should You Change Your Practice?” last month at the 2006 Emergency Nurses Association’s Scientific Assembly in San Antonio, Texas. Gilboy also presented “High-Risk Low Volume: Avoiding Triage Disasters.”
Cheryl Grove, RN, of Orthopaedic Surgery, was co-chair of Local Affairs for the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses’ 26th Annual Congress in May.
Liz Pizzello, RN, BSN, of the NICU, has become a clinical instructor of pediatrics at Northeastern University.
