Nurse Practitioner Presents in Amsterdam
On April 1, 2004, Carol Flavell, NP, spoke at the European Society of Cardiovascular
Nurses Conference in Amsterdam. Presenting to an audience made up of nurses from
all over Western Europe, Flavell discussed current literature on end-of-life care
for patients with heart failure. She addressed how heart failure patient needs
differ from the hospice model of cancer patients, and proposed that hospice/palliative
care nurses team up with cardiovascular nurses to best attend to heart failure
patients nearing the end of life. Said Flavell: “We have the privilege to
escort patients and families over the thin places—we must learn to do it
well.”
