The American Heart Association tapped Paula Johnson, MD, MPH, chief of BWH Division of Women's Health and executive director of Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology, to serve as a spokesperson for its Go Red For Women campaign this month. Go Red For Women, which began in February 2004, is a national effort to educate women about their risk for heart disease and encourage healthy lifestyle options to reduce this risk. "Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America," Johnson said. "It is important that we are not only aware of this disease, but that women understand the gravity of it and take action to learn about their risk profile and of preventative measures, such as diet, exercise and lifestyle adjustments." Johnson was to sit on a panel at today's Go Red For Women Luncheon, and earlier this week she appeared in news segments touting heart-healthy advice on WCVB channel 5 and WB56 programs.
