BWH mourns the loss of Clarice A. King, a former guest service attendant in the Department of Food Services, who worked at BWH for nearly 25 years. She passed away Nov. 10.
"Mrs. King always knew how to brighten everyone's day with her sense of humor and big smile," said Donna Shannon, BWH Food Services manager. "She gave every patient her time, care and attention, quickly learning the things they would like and making it her personal mission to go out of her way to make those things happen for them.
"Whether it was a cup of tea first thing in the morning before the kitchen opened, or an extra packet of ketchup for someone's burger, she remembered the little things and made patients feel cared for and at home," said Shannon. "She touched many lives on a daily basis."
Mrs. King was born in Grenada in 1935. She was the eldest daughter of nine children and became a mother figure to her own siblings and other children in her village at a young age. Years later, she met her husband, John, after moving to Trinidad West Indies to further her education.
"It seemed like she was known by name by virtually everyone at BWH," said Bryan Alexander, Food Services manager. "She was also immensely proud of her grandchildren and would always have a story to tell about them."
Mrs. King is survived by her six children, a son- and daughter-in-law, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. A service to celebrate her life was held in Dorchester on Nov. 16.
