70 Francis Street New Construction Plans Unveiled

At the heart of the hospital’s strategic vision is a plan to expand clinical
services with a new state-of-the-art health center at 70 Francis Street.
“I want BWH to be the best healthcare institution it can, by living up
to our mission of excellence in patient care, teaching and research,” said
President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, at a special administrative leaders group presentation
August 11. “With your input, ideas and voices, together we have realized
that to strengthen our medical service to the community, we need to improve patient
flow and centralize our key, clinical offerings.”
As a major step in a series of campus wide improvement initiatives, Gottlieb
announced that BWH plans to construct a 10-story, high-tech, state-of-the art
clinical building directly across from the hospital’s main entrance at 75
Francis Street. The goals are to provide expanded operating space underground
and equip the hospital with up to 30 additional private rooms that will transform
care at the bedside, as well as offer a more nurturing environment and encourage
greater family interaction in patient care.
“I thank all who have contributed to this project so far and for your
continued enthusiasm and support. With this plan in hand I see a very exciting
and promising future as we build and strengthen BWH’s ability to serve the
community,” Gottlieb said.
