BWH Expands Offerings to Foxborough

From left, BWH VP Sharon Vitti, Mitch Rubenstein, MD, Louise Schneider, MD, Chip Moore, MD, and David Faling, MD, joined Patriot Place General Manager Brian Earley, at right, for a first-hand look at the construction of a PHS-BWH-MGH ambulatory care center in Foxborough.
Dozens of BWH physicians and administrative leaders gathered in October to celebrate plans to build a premier academic ambulatory medical center on the sprawling Gillette Stadium property in Foxborough. Partners HealthCare, along with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Mass. General, is teaming up with New England Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft and his family to create a state of the art medical center at Patriot Place. The facility will offer top-notch medical care south of Boston creating a tremendous value for patients living in the area.
Jonathan Kraft, president and chief operating officer for The Kraft Group, the holding company of the Kraft family’s varied business interests—including the New England Patriots—hosted the event at Foxborough Stadium for BWHers and other guests, sharing his vision for the complex in addition to treating the attendees to a tour of the construction site.
BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, said “As we focus some elements of our strategic plan on ambulatory care, BWH will remain at the center of our tertiary care delivery, and we will grow and strengthen our ambulatory care centers at 850 Boylston, Faulkner, our community health centers in Jamaica Plain and, in the near future, Foxborough.”
The Route 1 site about 25 miles south of Boston is in a high-growth area near the intersection of major interstate highways, I-495 and I-95. Scheduled for a November 2008 opening, the four-story ambulatory medical center is expected to occupy approximately 75,000 square feet of space within the larger complex, which will offer retail stores, offices and restaurants to further enhance the experience and convenience of the location.
The medical center will be home to an ambulatory surgery center with four operating rooms, a collection of advanced imaging services and a wide variety of specialty services including primary care, pharmacy and laboratory services.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for BWH to develop a state of the art ambulatory site as a model for delivering integrated care that is accommodating to patients, supportive of our providers and staff and synergistic with Patriot Place,” Sharon Vitti, BWH’s vice president for Ambulatory Services, said.
“We knew from our relationships with Partners, specifically Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, that having a first-class medical facility here at Patriot Place is a great fit for both Partners and us,” Kraft said.
As many as 25 BWH primary care doctors, cardiologists, surgeons, plastic surgeons, radiologists and other specialists will practice there on a full- and part-time basis.
