Gordon Named Tower 10CD Nursing Director

Susan Gordon, MSN, ACNP-BP, was named nursing director of Tower 10CD, the intermediate neurosciences unit.
“The nurses on 10CD are a phenomenal group and truly dedicated to neuroscience nursing,” said Gordon, who joined BWH from Massachusetts General Hospital, where she served as nursing director for a general medical unit. “I came here because of BWH’s excellent reputation in nursing care, and this unit sets a wonderful example of providing the best care to patients.”
As nursing director, Gordon works with a staff of approximately 100 nurses, patient care assistants and unit coordinators in providing care to patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions.
“We are thrilled to welcome Susan as a key member of the leadership team on 10CD and in the Department of Nursing,” said Barbara Bauman, MS, MPA, RN, executive director of Surgical Nursing and Clinical Services. “She brings to the role a deep commitment to excellence in patient care, along with solid experience as a clinician and a nursing leader throughout her career.”
The unit is working on several exciting projects, including a new program for team-building. “Team-building is something the staff here told me they hoped to bolster, and I think the program we are going to pilot will have great outcomes in terms of building upon the teamwork already practiced here,” Gordon said.
In addition, Gordon will hold a series of courses beginning in January for nurses about caring for older adults. Typically, about half of the patients on Tower 10CD are over age 65 and often require care tailored to their specific needs.
Gordon has served in a number of nursing leadership and clinical positions, as well as a clinical nursing instructor, througout her career. Prior to her last position at MGH, Gordon was a nurse manager for a telemetry unit at Caritas Holy Family Hospital, and before that, a staff nurse at Emerson Hospital.
She earned her BSN and MSN from UMass Lowell and completed the acute care nurse practitioner program at UMass Worcester.
